Self Driving Cars, a new era in the World of Automobiles!
After awaiting for a long time, now the automobile giants like Mercedes, Volvo, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen etc. are ready to launch their self driving cars, which will run on the roads with or without any driver.
Self driving feature is also useful to stop crimes like we often hear about the hit and run cases, which usually takes place with reckless driver or under the influence of intoxicants. If there will be no driver in the car, then chances of accidents and crimes will decrease automatically to a great extent.
How do Autonomous cars work?
Before talking about its working, let us know about the meaning of Autonomous. Autonomous simply means that someone or something has the power of self-governance.
- GPS (Global Positioning System): – It is a navigation system, which works on the basis of live maps provided by the satellite. It is usually required to know about the live position of automobiles equipped with GPS system. It is used in self driving cars to load it with the maps, so that it follows the given location.
- Dynamic topography: – It is one of the main features of the self driving cars. After loading the GPS system, the self-driving car must have this feature, only then it can be put on roads. This feature is required, so that on slopes, speed breakers, various turns, signs, stoppages etc. car may work flawlessly.
- A mechanical machine: – This is the main part of the car to put both the above functions into work. Both of systems can work simultaneously only in the presence of a mechanical machine. This mechanical machine consists of various sensors like radars, cameras, lasers and accelerometer.
Google self driving car
Under this project Google has tested self driving car for 2,777,585 km.
In May, 2014 Google proposed a prototype, which was free from steering wheel, brakes and gas paddles. This is the only car, which purely has self driving feature. The cost of these Google cars are being estimated to be $2,30,000.
Drawbacks of self driving cars
Where the use of driverless cars is making the life of people easier, but there are many drawbacks because of which choosing self driving is quite confusing.
Self driving cars don’t have any driver or no option of manual driving, so it is quite dangerous to take a ride in these cars. As these self driving cars work with a computer based programme, which increases the chance of hacking and manipulation.
These cars can be hacked and can also deviate from their path. These cars will also increase the chance of cybercrime. These cars will increase the rate of accidents, as on 25 July, 2015, 23 different self driving cars collided at 14 different places.
This is only the result of testing. Now, we can imagine the rate of accidents after the trend of self driving cars, when multiple people would be driving around.
Self driving cars release date
Many of the car manufacturers like Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Volvo etc. are still working upon self driving cars, but changing the concept into reality needs time and a huge investment.
So we can’t expect these cars this year, but there is a probability that these cars might hit the world market till the end of 2018.
This is all for now about the release date of self driving cars, for more fun rides stay connected to Release Date Portal.
