Are we going to see Nvidia GTX 2000 Series or GTX 1100 Series?
Nvidia GTX 2000 series is presently the most awaited graphics card lineup since GTX 900 series.
I am sure that you had tried very hard to resist purchasing something trivial so you can buy your favorite graphics card. But you still couldn’t buy it because 2017 wasn’t actually a breezy year to purchase electronic hardware.
Especially since cryptominers scammed most of the amazing hardware to their mining efforts. A severe price hike occurred near the end of December 2017 and you were left wondering whether you should wait for the next GTX 2000 Series or buy a used graphics card recently exhausted from a mining fiasco.
Now hold on, don’t be upset. You should be glad that enough time has passed since the release of Nvidia Pascal series, i.e GTX 1000 series. The legends, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1080 & GTX 1080 Ti.
I don’t count the GTX Titan series because that’s way over the price limit and that card could easily bottleneck rest of your hardware. So, we’ll keep things grounded & well within our reach.
Elephant in the room – What’s the next GTX series name?
Presently, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is keeping ‘mum is the word’ for any related information. Several ‘trusted leakers’ have claimed that next GTX series will be named after 2000. Simply, because next graphics card lineup will not be a rehashed version of Pascal series.
Look…even Nvidia knows that cryptocurrency is not the actual future of financial coverage…so they will take care of it in their own way.
Nvidia will release two versions of their graphics cards in 2018 (& in 2019). One aimed for the gaming community & other one especially for the cryptominers.
Ampere series and Turing series – Are they final names of upcoming Nvidia graphics card?
For now, ‘yes’! Because the names make sense. Volta was supposed to surpass Pascal and it did. But the inclusion of Tensor cores, HBM2 memory & deep problem solving at core levels are making it harder to push the Volta series (not a series yet) into gaming market.
Not everyone has $1000 – $2000 in their wallet for just the graphics card…we need more RAM!!
The puzzle here is this…Ampere sounds a good name after Volta (Voltage) and it will be targeted for the gamers out there. Now, how does Turing comes to mind?
Remember Alan Turing?! He was a world renowned Computer Scientist and yes…that’s a position. He was responsible for learning and creating a computer that could think like human mind.
In a sense, it became a deep learning AI machine under his research. You should watch Benedict Cumberbatch’s The Imitation Game…you’ll appreciate the what Nvidia is trying to do here.
Lo and behold…the Turing series might be aimed for cryptominers. But that’s not all, don’t let the negativity of mining upset you. Deep learning AI’s are important to collect and process the vast amount of data we generate every single day & several systems, Medical, Armed, Exploration, etc. are using deep learning to solve problems that we are not able to solve due to obvious reasons.

Nvidia GTX 2000 Series Performance
Performance of GTX 2000 series will be at least 20% to 40% more than Pascal series based on respective graphics card it is competing from. I expect even better performance considering the technological shift coming in 2020.
Nvidia GTX 2000 Series Price
Estimated price of GTX 2000 series has already been mentioned in the table above. It looks like the graphics cards will be priced a little higher than Pascal series which is not surprising.
Nvidia GTX 2000 Series Release Date
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is yet to announce the graphics card series. Present estimation is Late Summer of 2018, around August/September 2018. We will be greeted with the high end first to showcase what the Ampere series & Turing series is capable of.
Eventually, in coming months, Fall 2018, Beginning of 2019 & Summer 2019, we will continue to see downsized version of GTX 2080 for Mid Range and Mainstream crowd of gamers.
A release date of Nvidia GTX 2000 series will be posted as soon as it is available on this page.
Should I wait for Nvidia GTX 2000 series?
If you are getting Nvidia GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti at very cheap somehow, then there is no point in waiting. Those cards are already capable of delivering 60+ frames per second at 4k resolution. The only reason to wait for GTX 2000 series is if you don’t have enough money to buy a graphics card right now and your plan is to somehow gather enough funds by the time it is released.
Then, you’ll see price drops in Nvidia Pascal series and you can make an informed decision, whether to go with the old legend or new and improved Ampere series (the graphics card lineup of the future).
Thank you for sticking till the end. Kindly bookmark this page for more updates on GTX 2000 series & all things related to release date.
