Nvidia RTX 2070 is the third graphics card in the series of Nvidia GeForce 20 Series. It was announced (& Founder’s Edition showcased) alongside RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti at Gamescon 2018 (20 August 2018).
The founder’s edition comes at an expensive price tag of $599 which is nearly double than Nvidia GTX 1070 founder’s edition.
Can Nvidia GTX 2070 become the next Value for Money GPU of 2019?
Now that EVGA has come up with their version of RTX 2070, let’s take a look at some benchmarks, price to performance ration in comparison to its Pascal counterparts and performance gap within Turing lineup as well.

Nvidia RTX 2070 Benchmarks
Since, RTX 2070 is also on the higher side of pricing, because of next-gen graphics technologies (like ray-tracing & DLSS), EVGA RTX 1070 XC looks quite barebone.
It doesn’t have backplate throughout & a very stock looking dual-fan configuration. The heatsink plates are also not well covered. Frankly, it doesn’t look a high-end top of the line graphics card at first glance.
May be the phrase holds true, ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’!! In case of EVGA RTX 2070, the cover is not impressive (but the benchmarks are!).

Nvidia RTX 2070 Review – The New GTX 1080 Ti
EVGA RTX 2070 isn’t competing with its Pascal counterpart, GTX 1070. Its actually in competition with GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti.
Real gaming difference between GTX 1080 and RTX 2070 is significant. Every single AAA title saw 10 to 30 frames per second jump with the RTX gpu. Of course, the jump depends highly on individual game and its optimization.
Since, RTX isn’t supported by any current AAA title, we are talking about raw gpu performance based on hardware specs bump since last generation (Turing over Pascal).
RTX 2070 comes quite close to GTX 1080 Ti and seems like a very good alternative (1080 Ti is still more powerful) if you really do want to use RTX and DLSS in upcoming gaming titles that would support them.
I have a feeling that although we won’t be able to play smoothly with RTX-ON in open-world dense AAA games, we might be able to play some linear games on it.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard comes to mind when I think of this. It had something like that and could benefit from RTX without compromising smooth frames.
However, don’t expect to play on 2k and 4K resolution with RTX turned on.
RTX 2070 feels more pro gamer/casual 3d developer than pro 3d developer/gamer. If you really do need to use raytracing to light up your 3d models, then you have the option to do it on the fly now.
Should you buy later or pre-order Nvidia RTX 2070 right now?
If you get a deal where the lowest price matches on actual release then go ahead, pre-order EVGA RTX 2070.
It’s an amazing graphics card and does provide you smooth 4K gaming with several AAA titles and is good for 2019 and 2020 as well (4K for some select titles).
Even if you want to wait, it would take only couple of weeks before other manufacturers pick up their cores from Nvidia and start building their own iteration of RTX 2070 with varied price ranges, overclocking, cooling solutions, etc.
Nvidia RTX 2070 vs Navi?
RTX 20XX’s biggest rival is Navi series from AMD. It is still behind the curtains and if leaked information is anything to go by then Navi will be released by the 3rd quarter of 2019. So, don’t expect third-party RTX manufacturers (EVGA, Zotac, etc.) to drop the prices significantly before that happens.
Your best bet is Black Friday 2018 deals and Christmas 2018 deals to buy RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti at the maximum discounted rates possible.
Should you care about RTX at this point?
One-word answer, No!
If you are going for 2000 series, then go for raw performance and not the fancy RTX name. It’s great for 4K gaming and that’s what you should focus on.
4K gaming with RTX ON is still a pipe dream and that will be confirmed with the release of Metro: Exodus because it supports RTX completely.
What do you think about RTX 2070?
Now that you have seen the performance of RTX 2070, I would like to know your opinion on it. Are you going to pre-order it or wait for the holiday deals?
Make sure to comment your opinions. Especially, how Nvidia performed with their new 20XX series lineup.
