But first of all please sit with me in my time machine and join me to take a tour to the world of Crysis.
Journey of Crysis Series and its success stories
Crysis is a first person shooter game, full of action and adventures, which is developed by Crytek, a Game developing company from Germany and published by Electronic Arts. It supports Microsoft Windows XP, Xbox 360 and also PlayStation 3.
The journey of Crysis started with the very first version of Crysis on 13th November 2007. The game world of Crysis mainly rotates around 3 corners, of which one is the military of North Korea and at second are the mercenaries equipped with heavy modern arms.
At the third corner, are the ‘Ceph’, group of aliens who arrived on planet earth before millions of years ago. The cause of their arrival remains unclear to all but they are awakened somehow. Now the centre of gravity for all three is you.
You have to fight all three of them tactically and clear your missions one by one by blazing guns or stealth approach. As a first player, you are one of the military protagonists with special high-tech ‘nanosuit’ which provides you with great speed, cloaking abilities, highly protective armour, and a hell lot of physical strength to fight your enemies.
As of now, Crysis has released 4 games in its main series and 4 other editions of it. These games are mentioned below with their release dates:

Now, I would request you to allow me to take you through all of them, one by one. I know that you would love this journey with me remembering your old days when you were amazed to see you wearing the nanosuit and using those realistic automatic weapons for the first time in the virtual world.
How can you forget your role as Alcatraz in Crysis 2 and your search mission to rescue Nathan Gould, the great scientist? So, let us enter the very first gate of Crysis of 2007.
- Crysis -First Edition Release date was in 2007
The events in the game takes place in the year 2020 at imaginary island, Lingshan. Do you remember ‘Helena Rosenthal’? When he gives sad news about invasion of North Korea on an island where Helena and her team were working.
On receipt of a signal, the government of United States decided to send the Raptor Team, which was a special task force equipped with high-tech Nanosuits.
But as soon as the Raptor Team reaches the island, before they could have been one to one with North Koreans, some mysterious and unknown flying characters destroyed them badly, just leaving behind Psycho, Nomad and Prophet somehow.

These were later on kidnapped by organisms/ flying characters which were further on known as ‘Ceph’. Helena and Nomad reached the island and Prophet went back to carrier fleet again and met Psycho.
Prophet then reaches an island which was destroyed during the attack on aliens to kill them, however those aliens turned much stronger due to the release of that huge amount of energy. Those energized aliens even attacked the carrier Fleet of US and destroyed it.
Psycho, Helena and Nomad survived the attack and get a signal from Prophet, full of agony and all three of them then decide again to return to the island in order to meet Prophet…
- Crysis Warhead- Release date was in 2008
In this part of the series, the story remains same and just continues ahead of the previous story adding a special mission to it. This was Psychos’s mission, in which he had been sent for the rescue of an alien captured by ‘North Koreans’ and ‘Colonel Lee’.
He made many attempts and finally with the help of his friend O’Neill he succeeds in his mission and defeats Colonel Lee. He, then brings the alien to the US Carrier fleet.
- Crysis 2- Release date was in 2011.
It was a proper sequel of the game, which was launched after 3 years of the original version. In this second episode of the game the story was moved ahead by three years in the virtual world too. The events of the story of the game take you to the future of real life but present for the characters, the year 2023.
The story of ‘Crysis 2’ begins with the city of New York getting infected by a dangerous virus. The starting of this story was the end of our original player, ‘Prophet’ as he commits suicide; but, before doing so, Prophet gave his high-tech nanosuit-2 to a US Marine, whom he found in almost dead condition and also handed over his mission of rescuing the great Scientist Nathan Gould.

The name of this Marine was Alcatraz who replaced Prophet in the game and proceed to the mission given by Prophet. Alcatraz faced lots of opponents including the Crynet’s CELL Agents who were working for the Department of Defenses under the United States to put the law and order back to normal in the city of Manhattan.
These agents were still in the confusion that Alcatraz is none other than Prophet, infected by an unknown Virus. In the rest of the game, Alcatraz has to mess up with the Ceph. Alcatraz along with Gould meets Tara Strickland and Jacob Hargreave.
Tara was a lieutenant who remained undercover since long and Jacob Hargreave was the one who actually created the powerful and high-tech nanosuits. Somehow, Alcatraz makes it possible to enter to the pinpoint of the core of Ceph and destroyed them all from the city of New York.
Alcatraz then goes through the Prophet’s memory pattern when DNA of Prophet was fused into the nerves of Alcatraz. The ending of Crysis 2 left us at the point where Karl Rasch; who was again a nanosuit scientist, comes into Alcatraz’s contact and promises him to continue his war against those unknown flying creatures.
Crysis 3, release date was scheduled in 2013
Crysis three was released in the year of 2013 and the centre of gravity again remains in the city of New York but, the time machine takes us to the year of 2047 where, Prophet is again back to the battle ground.
This mission of Prophet is against the network of CELL as the CELL is building separate Nanodomes for themselves. This is the latest version of the main series of the game which is available for its fans to play since its release in 2013.

- Other editions of Crysis released during the same timeframe
(a) ‘Crysis Maximum Edition’ released in 2009
This edition was not a new game, but the compilation of all the games of the same series which came into existence till date. It included the first edition or the Original version of Crysis, which was released in 2007 along with Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars of the year 2008.
So, you can say that there was no addition to the storyline in anyway. It was just a combo-pack of the different versions of the game which was released in order to increase its reach to its fans at low rates. Rest everything remained same without any change, including the system requirements for the game.
(b) ‘Crysis Trilogy’– release date, 12th Feb 2014.
This was again the second compilation of the series but after the release of Crysis 3. So, you can say that, Crysis Trilogy was such a combo pack of the game which contained all the episodes of the game released till 2013, since after its first release in 2007.
But, this trilogy could be purchased only from the digital retailers available in the market. The most striking feature of this trilogy were the bonus contents which are being given along with the base games.
Did you meet the characters of the game?
Firstly, let me introduce you with the characters of Crysis World, one by one.
- Nomad alias Jake Dunn:
He came into existence with the first game of the series. He is a part of the Raptor Team. If you want to know his past, then you need to go through the Crysis Warhead, in which you will witness him replacing O’Neil, who is the other member of the same Raptor team.
In the very first game, Nomad remains alive even after the first attack of Ceph. By the ending of the game he has been shown returning to the island with his intention to find Prophet and stop the attack of aliens from the source of their origin.
- Psycho alias Michael Sykes:
Psycho’s control comes to your hand during ‘Crysis Warhead’. He is another member of the same Raptor Team. You might have witnessed him during the first version of Crysis in its first half and returns back in its end when he joins Nomad, returning back to the island to find Prophet.
Warhead was an attempt to cover that intermediary time interval when Psycho is out of the main game as he went away to stop Colonel Lee and his Army from reverse engineering the technology of the captured alien for their use.
Although after this, Psycho is back in Crysis 3, working against the CELL as a part of the resistance. He has been shown without any nanosuit as it had been snatched from him by the CELL.
He was originally a Marine from New York City. He used to be a part of the Recon forces of Marines. He was found by Prophet in almost dead condition. Before committing suicide, prophet handed over his own nanosuit and also the mission to search and rescue the scientist, Gould.
He made his path through mercenaries and then suddenly finds the scientist Gould. They initially got separated and again meet at a station named Grand Central and then both of them plan to rescue the other people of the New York.
Then, later on Alcatraz moved to an island, which was the home for Jacob Hargreave, one of the creators of the nanosuit. He then finishes the assimilation and destroys all the forces of aliens from the New York City. He again meets the Prophet in very deep layers of the high-tech nanosuit, which was given to Alcatraz by Prophet after his own suicide.
By the time events of Crysis 3 comes into existence, the consciousness of Alcatraz has been entirely dominated by Prophet due to the effect of Prophet’s nanosuit he was wearing.
- Prophet alias Laurence Barnes:
Prophet was there in the game since starting. He is the one who leads the Raptor team. He was there all through Crysis version one, Crysis 2, Crysis 3 and you might have also heard about him in Warhead. Prophet monitors and guides Nomad in his very first mission.
But, he was considered dead after being captured by aliens until Nomad found him back in ice sphere. But after his rescue from the aliens, Prophet started behaving oddly and tried to explain something about hidden technologies of aliens and he also talks about some drive to be returned back to the island.
He was back to the island in final war with the aliens when the island was destroyed by army and it was assumed that Prophet is no longer alive. But, anyhow Prophet manages to send a distorted signal to Psycho and Nomad. After which, Psycho and Nomad also return to the island in order to search Prophet.
Prophet also made us to feel his presence at the starting of Crysis 2 when he appeared wearing nanosuit 2 for the first time and then handed over the same nanosuit to Alcatraz by killing himself.
If you remember, after the Crysis 3 events are over, the inhibitors of the nanosuit were removed and were allowed to bond entirely with Prophet to carry on with Barnes appearance.
- Friendly companion characters of the game
(a) Sean O’Neill: He is there in one of the major roles during Warhead. He is Psycho’s old friend. He was there to become a member of Raptor Team but failed during an evaluation test and thus was replaced by Nomad.
- Many times he helped Psycho even after telling him to stay away from the military. He at last leaves the same island with Psycho but, later on it was nowhere mentioned that what happened to Neill at the time alien attacked the Career Fleet.
- (b) Helena Rosenthal: She is the lady scientist arrested by military of North Korea and was later liberated from them by Nomad and safely reached back to US carrier fleet.
- Helena also survived after the alien attack and later joins back with Psycho and Nomad while returning to the island in search of Prophet as they get a signal from Prophet and came to know that Prophet is still alive.
Let us also meet the villains of the Game Crysis
Warhead. Colonel Lee is the commander of North Korean military at an island. Somehow he manages to apprehend one of the aliens and tries to bring the unknown creature to Korea for carrying out reverse engineering and then using the technology for their benefit.
By the end of Warhead, he was at last defeated by the aliens and probably supposed to be killed by their warship.
- General Kyoung:
He was also a military leader of a detachment of KPA army at the island. His intentions were almost similar to that of Colonel Lee. Kyoung also wanted to make use of the technologies used by aliens for North Korea and turn North Korea in the most powerful country of the world.
- Commander Domini Lockhart:
He was the main villain during the initial half of Crysis 2. He was also performing the duties of the leader of CELL. He tried to kill Alcatraz thinking that he is Prophet. He was not obedient to his superior commanders and felt no harm in going against the orders given to him in order to achieve his own goals.
His life came to an end when he was thrown by Alcatraz from the window of a building at second story.
- Jacob Hargreave:
Jacob is actually the main villain who shows his powers during the other half of Crysis 2. Initially for his own greed of taking away the suit from Alcatraz, he guides Alcatraz through many missions till the time Alcatraz kills Lockhart.
His intention was to take nanosuit 2 from Alcatraz and then fight the Ceph alone. Later on, Alcatraz came to know that the man behind the events of Crysis was none other than Jacob after Tara Strickland explains the entire story to him.
Jacob was responsible for starting the battle between aliens and US military when he came into touch with aliens around 100 years ago in Tunguska. Jacob was assumed to meet the final destiny when the building of Hargreave-Rasch collapsed due to an attack by aliens.
- CELL agents:
These are human beings working for Crynet. They are responsible for isolating the City of New York. Their presence was felt more by Alcatraz in Crysis 2. They use armor and variety of automatic guns, vehicles, helicopters, tanks etc. They turns more effective when present in large strength.
- Aliens/ the Ceph:
They are the creatures from some different planet which dominated the island and mainly resided on a huge mountain. They appear in various shapes and sizes. The purpose of their existence on our planet is not clear to anybody but they are neither friendly to Koreans nor Americans.
During the first version of Crysis, these aliens used to have some ice-based technologies which help them to increase their strength by absorption of energy from various sources. In the second version of the main stream of Crysis it was revealed that they are present all around the planet in various unknown forms including islands and even the city of New York.
Weapons in the arsenal of Crysis Series
It was a fun to use the different weapons at different points of time as per the requirements of the tactical situation into the battle field. I was fond of using deceptive weapons with delay mechanism and vow other than using those automatic guns to take the headshots. Can you tell me, what used to be your choice out of all these enlisted below.
- SCAR-The superior Combat Assault Rifle, an assault rifle. I used the second mode of it while playing Crysis 3 and controlling the playing character Alcatraz.
- Grendel: It was generally used when the enemies were there in large number and player used to open fire in burst mode firing 3 rounds together.
- Rhino: It is a shotgun with 12g, it came into existence during another expansion of Crysis 3 and the battle ground was a lost island.
- SCARAB: A standard version of an assault rifle. It was the upgraded version of the previous SCAR rifle. It also came into existence in the third version of Crysis Series with a separate detachment.
- K–Volt: This is an amazing electromagnetic gun which fires automatically the electric bolts which are highly concentrated.
- Feline: A lethal automatic machine gun with a great fire power and a very high rate of fire.
- It is also a pistol but just opposite to M12 NOVA as it is more lethal than M12 but its rate of fire is very less and hence remains ineffective for a group of enemies.
- AY 69:
- Another pistol in crysis which is very similar to UZI of the real world.
- It was one of the most lethal submachine guns and my favourite weapon against the Colonel Lee’s army as it can fire 500 rounds per min. It has always 720 rounds in reserve in its magazine. Alternatively you can fire with it in single shot mode. But you can enjoy firing this weapon only in Crysis 3.
- Predator Bow:
- It is one of my favourite weapons to kill most of my enemies. There are 4 different modes of ‘Predator Bow’ with different types of arrows.
Crysis 4 release date- reality and Myths about it
Now, we are back to the present time and I have already opened the doors of my time machine so that you can come out of it. It is the right time for me disclose about Crysis 4 release date.
Let me tell you that there are hundreds of myths about the release of Crysis 4 but I would be very blunt to confirm it that Crysis 4 would not be coming to the market as it has already been confirmed by the makers of Crysis Series but they have not denied from being working on the same concept by may be with some other name.
The company’s original plan about Crysis was to finish it within three parts or the ‘Trilogy’ which they have already done. Now as per the Producer of Crytek, Michel Read, if they will make Crysis 4 then they need to continue the same story and the series would not come to any conclusion.
Other than that, the players of the real world may lose their interest finding the same pattern in the game. Denying of acceptance of the fact that the team is not working on the concept of Crysis is an indication from Crytek that not actually Crysis 4 but something like Crysis 4 with some other name is in the pipeline with some different concept and story, although company has promised nothing about it but remember they have not denied too.
So it is very clear that you might get a chance to meet the Prophet again, but the world of your enemies may get change and you might be equipped with some other high-end weapons as per the requirement of the environment and the tactical situation available.
While mining for the truth through various other sources, I also came to know that there is some leaked information in the market which claims that this time in Crysis 4, the entire team will be fighting against the terrorism and the breakout of a biological warfare is very much possible.
But, I don’t believe it until and unless there is some solid information available from Crytek or the other sources within the company. Till the time anything is said by the makers, different people can have different views over the same thing and I consider them all as the misleading elements present in the market.
It is highly possible that Crysis 4 may not be an FPS but then what? But, if we go as per the statement ‘Read’ in which he meant that “the franchise of Crysis has lots of life remaining in it.” It clearly indicates that something is cooking in Read’s mind which will definitely take a shape in the future.
Crysis 4 release date is just a hype created by various market movers but their claims are not totally false because not Crysis 4 but definitely something is going to be released on that date in near future and nobody knows when it can be announced. I am also a game lover and a hard-core fan of Crysis Series.
Cryis 4 may come to the market in any name but, before it hit the market I want to prepare myself and my system. Are you ready? Can Your System run it? I mean, Crysis 4 if it comes to the market? I am fully prepared for it as I have recently upgraded my system as per the specifications given below.
Recommended System requirements for futuristic “Crysis 4” (High Settings)
CPU- You need the extreme edition of Intel Core i-7-4960X 3.6GHz, 6 Core Processor
Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 ATX LGA 2011
Memory- Corsair XMS 64GB, DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage- I recommend Samsung EVO 1TB 2.5” Solid State Disk to store and run it flawlessly.
Video Card– Asus GeForce GTX Titan 6GB
Case– NZXT Phantom ATX with Full Tower Case
Power Supply– Silverstone Strider 1500w 80+ Silver Certified ATX Power Supply
It is highly possible that my system configuration may not work properly but I am pretty sure that it would definitely be able to play the upcoming version of Crysis easily.
But, I would recommend for you to not take any decision in hurry until and unless the so called Crysis 4 release date is confirmed from the close sources of Crytek.
Till the time time Crysis 4 or any such next episode is released by the company, I would continue shooting the aliens of Crysis Trilogy. But what you are going to do next, my friend?
