Dying Light 2 release date is 2020 but that’s not the most exciting part
Dying Light 2 is currently one of the most anticipated action, survival, parkour, zombie games of 2020. Everyone has been desperately waiting for its announcement since the day Dying light: The Following made us turn into a volatile.
Techland finally announced it at E3 2018 and everyone went nuts on the trailer and at E3 2019, they launched the first gameplay trailer.
It felt surreal to have that much control over a game world. We literally are going to make life changing choices and they are going to matter.
Just take a look at the gameplay video below and you’ll see how your decisions to just providing water to a thirsty colony can alter the demographics of a whole area. It’s eery.
The Most Exciting part of Dying Light 2
The most exciting part of Dying Light 2 is the replayability. Dying Light already had wonderful mechanics regarding upgrade system and combat and enough enemy versatility to keep on replaying the game over and over again.
But this is even more exciting that now your actions will affect the game and the characters in it even more than just laid out pattern.
Your actions will determine whether people live or die…not just one person…a whole colony and that’s huge.
If you have played Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, then you would understand the feeling of killing a person due to a decision that you took…it’s heart breaking!
Hats off to Techland for giving us that level of complexity and brilliant gameplay.
New Parkour Moves to make Zombie Hunting more FUN
Parkouring around the city was already amazing and giving zombies a run for their money, was truly heart pounding.
This time, parkour moves have been increased and the combat is more refined. So… let’s see how we do against those new Volatiles.
Dying Light 2 Trailer
Have a look at the Dying Light 2 trailer that made everyone go crazy at E3 2019.
Rocket Launcher and armored truck will be the means of destruction in Dying Light 2
Dying Light had redefined the gameplay of a zombie slashing game when it came out in February 2015. Parkouring over zombies was fun and different. Dying Light 2 will definitely improve and evolve further as soon as Techland finish working with Hellraid.
Development of Dying Light 2
It is sad to say that Dying Light 2 is still under discussion and at ‘what we can do with the next’ stage. Around August 2015, Techland informed few gaming websites that they want to do something different and something really big.
Dying Light and The Following (it’s story based expansion pack) was the first idea from the very beginning. However, the main story was getting bigger and there was not enough time to include gameplay elements, which we saw in The Following, in the original game.
Hence, when you take both of these together, you will realize the full version of what Techland had originally thought.
Tymon Smektala, Producer, mentioned that current generation of gaming consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, are not powerful enough to handle Dying Light 2.
Now, given that only one game (Dying Light) was released on PS4 and Xbox One, it seems really strange that developers are already thinking that they won’t be able to handle the sequel.
I don’t know what they have in mind for Dying Light 2, but would it be so huge and complex that these modern generation gaming consoles won’t be able to handle it!
Anyways, that’s all there is to know about the development section of Dying Light 2.
Gameplay of Dying Light 2
Including Buggy was Techland’s primary plan with the main game, however, as I mentioned above that the game got bigger and complex that it would have taken much more time to successfully optimize every aspect of it so that having a Buggy would make a sense.
The developers decided to continue developing Buggy and its related gameplay mechanics, so that they could include it in the expansion pack, The Following.
The map of The Following is twice the size of Harran; hence it was sensible to include a Buggy. Since, it could be upgraded, it became more fun to drive from point A to point B.
Killing zombies on the way was quite thrilling and keeping your Buggy at its optimum level was necessary because biters would chase you frantically and if a part of your Buggy is broken, you won’t be able to shake them or kill them, and ultimately, they will gash you to death.
Here’s what is still missing from Dying Light universe and it might be included in Dying Light 2:
- A rocket launcher.
- Armored truck, which will be upgradable.
- More environmental destruction to trap zombies in it.
- More items to find in the world and it should have a valid impact. For example, no matter how many Antizins we delivered after risking our lives, we couldn’t actually see how much we needed.
- If we had a number in mind and a sure way to do it, we would have risked our lives even at night to get those Antizins.
It brings us to my main point. The point of all of our troubles in Harran was to find a cure for the infection. We got really close with Dr. Camden heading in right direction after we delivered notes of Dr. Zere.
But, The Following, added a definite end to our journey towards finding a cure. If we agree to arm the nuclear warhead, we eliminate everyone and if we choose to take the vials with us, we turn into a volatile as soon as we reach the surface.
We were about to kill a mother and her two frightened little children because the night had arrived and we wouldn’t be able to control our new basic instincts.
So, ultimately we did exactly what ministry was going to do and in the main game, we had risked our life to signal the oncoming jets that Harran was still left with plenty of survivors.
Giving an option to save someone is the nicest thing that destiny ever does and only few people get this option. I hope that Dying Light 2 does more justice with its main plot. If something can be saved, then at least give them an option.
There is not a single virus in our world, which doesn’t have a cure. Many of them have been discovered and many are still under heavy research. The point is, I seriously thought that we could cure this virus and actually make a difference.
The Following started with a great mystery with a hope to kill the virus and ended with a cliché! Kill everyone (infected and survivors alike) and it shall be cured!
Release Date of Dying Light 2
After The Following, Techland will go back to finish Hellraid and then we will certainly see an announcement of the sequel.
Developers were actually right that Dying Light won’t be able to run smoothly on Xbox 360 and PS3 due to hardware limitation.
They seem pretty certain that the next generation consoles will fall short too and that’s why Dying Light 2 will be released after 2018, when Microsoft and Sony, release their 8th generation of gaming consoles, i.e. PS5 and Xbox Two.
As a matter of fact, several big games are slated to be released after 2018, like GTA 6, The Witcher 4, etc. Hence, it is certain that gaming consoles would have to become more powerful to accommodate the life-like world of these games.
Till then, I would like to know your opinions about Dying Light 2. What are your wishes for it and what are your complaints?
